Two summers ago I made a new best friend on the Umpqua River in Southern Oregon. His name was Ned and he showed me how to yard Smallmouth with a do-nothing jig! You can read more about that trip here. Since that trip, I have been a massive fan of this style of fishing, and have caught a lot of really nice fish with this technique so I was thrilled when Eagle Claw introduced their new line of Pro V Finesse Jigs that work perfectly for this style of fishing.
Some things I love about these new jigs:
Eagle Claw uses a Lazer Sharp Hook for this jig. These Needle point hooks are made in the USA, and have a super sticky point that will pin a bass every time. In addition, they incorporated their “Pro V” design into the jig hook for even better hooking and holding power.
Eagle Claw developed a bait keeper that works great. If you have fished these rigs enough, you know that you need to glue your bait to the jig head or it will constantly slide down. With this new keeper there is no need for glue, this thing really holds the bait in place!
The Eagle Claw Lazer Sharp Finesse Pro V Jig Heads go up to 3/16oz. I fish a lot of rivers and this heavier weight really helps in fishing this style effectively.
The Eagle Claw Lazer Sharp Finesse Jigs are available in both standard and weedless. The weedless version is slightly more expensive but still an incredible value.
Last but not least is the price. The regular version retails for $4.20 for 5 jig heads, and the weedless version retails for $4.99 for a 5 pack. Fishing an open hook presentation like this means you snag up a lot, and lose a lot of lures in a day. Getting these incredible jig heads at this price is awesome!
The Eagle Claw Lazer Sharp Finesse Jigs are perfect for Ned-Style fishing and I can’t wait to get out and catch some fish on these jigs!
